Mushie's Farm Border Collies
My love for Border Collies began when I realized that with a growing flock and the need to manage the sheep on my own, I needed a reliable working companion. After doing my research, I found the perfect dog, Furiosa, affectionately known as Fury. A true force to be reckoned with, Fury crossed the rainbow bridge far too soon. However, my connection to and love for the breed never wavered, making it a no-brainer to keep two of Furiosa’s daughter (Ripley and Newt).
Ripley, aptly named after Lt. Ellen Ripley from the Alien movie series, is the head honcho of my small pack. She plays a crucial role in holding and keeping the flock away when a gate is open, ensuring that work can proceed without needing to pen the sheep. I am committed to continuing her training, building her skills, keeping her focused on the tasks at hand.
Newt, named after the daughter figure in the second Aliens movie, is the speed demon of my pack. Newt confidently works with the lambs and is incredibly gentle with the younger sheep. Her love for playing ball means I’ll be exploring outside activities for her to learn, play, and enjoy even more!
Xenomorph, affectionately known as Xena, is named after the extraterrestrial species in the Aliens movies. Xena is still a puppy and she still has much to learn, but her instincts and drive have been remarkably strong since she joined the farm. I will be focusing on honing her instinctual abilities to make her a key contributor when working with the flock. Also, Xenomorph is a half-sister to Ripley and Newt, as they share the same sire (dad).
Squid joined the farm in the Fall of 2024 at the age of two. She needed a new home, and I am excited to give her a second chance at becoming a faithful working dog. While her instincts are evident, we’ll be focusing on improving her manners and control around the flock this summer. Also, I’ll be learning how to throw a frisbee so Squid can continue to enjoy this outside activity.
