Meet the Guardians of Mushie’s Farm!
Pickles

Meet Pickles, the strong-willed painted gelding donkey who stays close to the main flock. He takes his job very seriously—after all, it’s not every day you get to be a sheep’s bodyguard!

Forget the Guardians of the Galaxy—here at Mushie’s Farm, I have my very own Guardians of the Farm! These donkeys are no superheroes, but they sure know how to protect my flock with style and a bit of humor!
My donkeys play a crucial role in keeping the sheep safe from predators like coyotes and other wildlife. As prey animals, sheep rely heavily on their guardians, and that’s where my dynamic duo comes in: Pickles and Katya!
Guardian Donkeys
At Mushie’s Farm, our guardian donkeys are more than just adorable companions; they play a vital role in protecting the flock and contributing to farm safety.
Natural Instincts: Donkeys are instinctively protective animals and they have an inherent drive to guard their territory and the animals within it. Their strong maternal instincts make them particularly effective at safeguarding sheep and other livestock from potential predators.
Deterrents to Predators: The presence of donkeys in a pasture can deter predators like coyotes and foxes. Donkeys are known to be aggressive towards these threats, often chasing them away. Their loud braying also serves as an alarm system, alerting farmers to potential dangers.
Social Creatures: Donkeys are social animals that thrive in companionship. When paired with sheep or other livestock, they form strong bonds, which enhances their protective instincts. This social dynamic not only provides security but also reduces stress among the sheep, as they feel more at ease with their donkey guardians nearby.
Lifelong Guardians: Once they form a bond with their flock, donkeys remain dedicated guardians for life. Their loyalty and commitment to protecting their herd ensure that they are always on duty, providing peace of mind to farmers.
Low Maintenance: Donkeys require basic care, such as good nutrition, shelter from extreme weather, and regular hoof care. Their hardiness allows them to adapt well to various environments, making them an excellent choice for many farms.
Katya

And then there’s Katya, the beautiful brown-eyed brown jenny, who roams to different parts of the farm, keeping a watchful eye on our lambs, rams, and even the horses. She’s not just a guardian; she’s a fantastic babysitter, ensuring everyone is safe and sound.
